Your app is your ticket to Silicon Valley

Date:2 August 2018 Author: Brendon Petersen Tags:,

The seventh edition of South Africa’s premier app development competition raises the stakes with the overall winner walking away with a trip to Silicon Valley worth R200 000. There you can network with the world’s key technology and innovation players and secure investments to take your business to the global stage.

“The MTN Business App of the Year Awards is an accelerator for innovators and entrepreneurs to not only create solutions that assist society, but also launch and grow sustainable businesses,” explains Wanda Matandela. Chief Enterprise Business Officer: MTN Business SA.

With a mere 50 apps submitted seven years ago to over 600 entries in 2017, the MTN Business App of the Year Awards has proven to be the main event on the development calendar. Over the years the competition has enabled a number of apps that have become vital services for many South Africans with SnapScan, Tuta-Me and the recent Makro acquisition WumDrop among the previous winners.

“These are businesses that will provide pioneering solutions to customers, contribute to economic growth and create much-needed employment opportunities,” says Matandela. “The initiative is also a practical demonstration of MTN’s continued commitment to champion the local app development movement by encouraging developers to create solutions that meet the wide range of challenges we face in the digital age.”
