There are tons of reasons you might want the Send button to actually read Send Later – especially if you don’t want to seem too eager to respond to a message you just got. Thankfully, there are ways to write now and deliver later – even if you’re not at your computer.
Gmail users can juice their account with Boomerang for Gmail, a free add-on that adds a Send Later button. Clicking it allows you to push the message through whenever you’d like (or at a random time, if you’re in the mood). For now, Boomerang works only with the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers, so definitely get one of those if you’re using something else.
If you’ve got Outlook 2003 or later, you can also schedule an e-mail. Just click the Options menu at the top of the e-mail’s window and then select More Options and Delay Delivery.
Don’t use Gmail or Outlook? You still have options: a number of online services, such as LetterMeLater.com, let anybody send an e-mail at a scheduled time from their e-mail account.
