Who needs a scanner?

Don’t bother with a flatbed scanner if you want to transfer old family photographs or school yearbooks to your computer screen. Instead, place the photograph on the floor in bright sunlight (at a time of day when the sun is at an angle, to prevent reflections) and take a picture of it with your digital camara. The resolution will be better and the file size larger, which means you can actually zoom in on details and still see what’s going on. Prevent distortion by aiming down at a right angle to the floor, holding the camera about 1 m from the picture you’re copying.
