Cape Town Stadium on track for 2010 Soccer World Cup comments: 5

This view of the new Cape Town Stadium was taken from Signal Hill in Cape Town.

With only days to go to handover, PM’s deputy editor, Anthony Doman, was lucky enough to be taken on a tour of the Cape Town Stadium. “Damn. It’s impressive,” he said in awe. Do you agree? Post a comment…

On the World Map
I agree with Cornell Leibbrandt's post of 14/12/2009. I work for the City of Cape Town in the Civil Engineering Department and is Secretary for IMESA Western Cape. I went on a Technical Tour to the Cape Town Stadium with Engineers in the industry from all over the Western Cape. I was amazed and stunned! As the younger generation in South Africa and living in Cape Town, I feel this have placed us even more on the World Map. I must admit that the costs is/was scary but I appreciated every cent that was used to erect this Amazing World Class Stadium. I am proud of SOUTH AFRICA, CAPE TOWN; and why must we settle for second best?

Cost of Care!
I wonder:Why we did not need to spend this money to have a Rugby World CupHow much in Rands it would have cost to upgrade the stadiums we have loved. Why we needed to trash what we have ( see point above) How much more would the people have benefited had the money been spent on "personal growth" projects/homes/hospitals/education" Would absorbing this spectacle from a "not so new" stadium diluted the experience.Would the real world not have had a better opinion of our abilities as South Africans if we had chosen to spend these billions on forward growth as apposed to individual pride.Do we really know??Do we really care??Have we as voters become as "individually idealistic" as those that take positions of power because of us"I WONDER???????
