In a recent debate with a group of friends on the 10 essential ingredients of a basic toolbox, I opted for the following: hammer, pliers, sidecutters, shifting spanner, set of screwdrivers (regular and Phillips), duct tape, cordless drill (with bits), crosscut handsaw, tape measure, spirit level. A friend said we should drop the duct tape, sidecutters and spirit level, and substitute an extension lead, a utility knife and a roll of thin wire. I’d be interested to know what your other readers think.
