it's been three years since the last Johannesburg International Motor Show, so you could excuse the memory bewing a litle hazy, but there's a strong feeling that this one is the best yet.
Normally held every two years, JIMS did not take place in 2010 because of that little footballing event happening around the country and down the road from the show venue south of Johannesburg at Nasrec.
Day 1 of JIMS, the first of two media days, saw product reveals from several of the big guns – GM, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford and Mazda, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Honda among them. As I write this at 5.45 on Friday morning, we're about to set off for Day 2

And, of course, I look forward to meeting some of you on the weekend, when the doors open to the general public: visit our stand in Link 5/6, between halls 5 and 6, to sample some of today's connected world via Twitter, Facebook and other forms of social networking, and also to try out several of the current must-have tablet devices from Motorola, Asus, Samsung, Apple and BlackBerry in our special display Tablet Wars. There's plenty more to do and see on our stand, and of course at the show itself, which fills six exhition halls providing, say the organisers, 50 000 square metres of indoor exhibits and almost half that amount again outdoors.
