The Guardians of the Galaxy are back! And they are still the most amazing part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The space opera that I fell in love with in 2014 is even better and has added new fascinating characters to the intergalactic mix. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos far far away from the Hulks and Captain Americas of the world. This time around the Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Yes, we all love hilarious and awkwardly attractive Peter Quill, but the star of this show is Rocket Raccoon (who should never under any circumstances be referred to as a raccoon).

Rocket is one of Marvel’s greatest inventors and can always be counted on to create something to get the team out of a jam.  Without the physical advantages that come with being human, in the latest installment of GOTG, Rocket masterfully pilots a spaceship, takes out Ravagers and invents the finest weaponry.

He also fashions a music player for StarLord’s listening pleasure, body amour for the entire gang and a pretty important explosive device.

Rocket is an ‘invention’ himself and fans have long been campaigning for a Rocket and Groot spinoff were we get to see exactly how Rocket came to be and why.

Comic book Rocket Raccoon has a complicated origin story that involves his home planet Halfwood and his creation by humanoid scientists that the MCU definitely needs to bring to life. Vol 2 gave a look into the origins of Peter Quill aka StarLord and even touched on Gamora’s childhood, hopefully the next movie focuses on Rocket and his amazing inventing skills.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is out today.
