Entitled “Tadpoles overhead”, the overall winner of the Royal Society Publishing photography competition shows a group of common toad (Bufo Bufo) tadpoles swimming in a crystal clear pond in Belgium.
The image was captured with a Canon G12 camera with a Recsea underwater housing and a Dyron dome port. The photographer, Bert Willaert, used only natural light to capture the tadpoles’ silhouettes.
The photography competition celebration images that capture and easily convey science. The Royal Society Publishing writes: “The winning photo stood out from over 1,000 entries for giving a tadpole’s glimpse of the world beyond the water — a surprising perspective of an everyday biological phenomenon.”
