A complete redesign has nearly halved the size of of Jawbone’s UP2 activity tracker compared with its predecessor. To be exact, it’s a 45 % reduction in size, with the same design as the UP3 band, but with an even smaller form factor.
The tracker connects to Jawbone’s UP app and, using what the company describes as powerful behaviour change tools, provides a great entry point for anyone starting their fitness-tracking journey. They’re talking about Smart Coach, an intelligent system that learns your habits and gives you personalised guidance and feedback to help you reach your goals.
As Smart Coach gets to know you, it provides actionable insights and achievable challenges tailored to improve your sleep, diet and activity. For example, if Smart Coach finds that an earlier bedtime means you typically get more steps the next day, it might suggest a bedtime “Today I Will” to prompt you to set a bedtime reminder, or the Smart Alarm to help you wake up feeling refreshed.
The tracker’s vibrating motor can be set to wake you up at the most optimal point in your natural sleep cycle, or remind you to get up and move when you’ve been inactive for a certain amount of time. Use your UP2 band to set custom reminders that gently buzz you on the wrist when you want to remember to go to bed, workout, or take a daily pill.
It connects wirelessly to your smartphone via Bluetooth Smart to give you real-time progress reports and features a rechargeable lithium ion battery that lasts up to seven days on a single charge. Its shower- and splash-resistant design allows continuous wear. Upgrades and new features are delivered through free software and app updates, ensuring it stays current.
The UP by Jawbone App for is available as a free download for Android or iOS. The open UP platform allows the user to connect to anyone in the UP system for added motivation, using Jawbone devices or a wide range of third-party trackers.
Discovery Vitality members can get cash back benefits on selected Jawbone fitness devices and can also use them to earn up to 200 Vitality points a day.
