Turning good intentions into lifelong habits isn’t easy. That’s where the Garmin Vivofit wellness band comes in. It not only greets users with a personalised daily goal, but also tracks their progress and reminds them when it’s time to move, too. The Vivofit does this by monitoring the wearer’s current activity levels, then assigning attainable daily goals. As milestones are met, it adjusts the goal for the next day, gradually nudging users towards a healthier lifestyle.
Featuring a curved display that always stays on, it also shows steps, goal countdown, calories burned, distance and time of day. The replaceable batteries are said to last over a year, so you never need take it off – which is a good thing when you consider it also monitors the quality of your sleep.
Another cool feature is its ability to alert office workers when they’ve been sitting for too long. After it registers that you haven’t moved for a while, a red bar appears on the display, which builds as you remain sitting. Fortunately, a couple of minutes’ walk resets this indicator until the next reminder.
Price: about R1 900 for a standalone unit and R2 300 for the heart rate monitor bundle. Contact Garmin on 011-251 9999 or visit www.garmin.co.za
