While this tech isn’t available for purchase yet, with a little help from Kickstarter it may well be in future. The Nomad by bLU3 is a portable, tankless dive system and could bridge the gap between snookering and SCUBA diving.
The Nomad pod is lightweight and entire unit attaches to a backpack mount that doubles as a dive harness. An air compressor floats above the surface, above the diver and pumps air to a mouthpiece through a 12-metre hose.
The entire unit is battery-powered; charged with a single charge cable and can even be fully charged by an optional solar panel in about 3 hours.
“Our goal with the bLU3 line is to fill the void between snorkeling and SCUBA diving. We want to make ‘getting and staying’ underwater easier, more enjoyable, cheaper, and more rewarding than it currently is. And on our way to getting millions of new people under the water, we have a very important and exciting mission that can be accomplished – fully documenting the world’s shallow reefs around the world to help build a future of healthy oceans,” Blake Carmichael, Nomad’s developer explained.
The prototype comes with automatic inflation for the flotation device 9just press a button), a watertight storage compartment for phones, wallets and the like and a built -in USB charging port for mobile devices and cameras.
