Professor Astro Cat is arguably the most clever cat in the world. He is said to have multiple degrees over a variety of disciplines, and is the foremost expert on astronomy. His favourite pastime, however, is to teach kids about outer space with the Astro Cat Space Programme.

The professor was created by quantum physicist Dr Dominic Walliman and illustrator Ben Newman for the book entitled Professor Astro Cat’s Frontiers of Space. With the aid of colourful illustrations and plain language the professor explains the complexities of topics such as gravity, time and the death of a sun. Released in 2013, the book was so popular that Professor Astro Cat was applied to a new medium.

Now the professor has stepped into the age of smartphones and continues his teaching with an app.

Professor Astro Cat’s Solar System is an interactive take on the exploration of outer space. Much like the digital counterpart of a pop-up book, kids have to use gestures to unlock areas and learn more. Unzipping the sun to explore its layers or scrolling in various directions for wider views are some of the actions necessary to learn more.
