Smartflower POP is a clever solar system that adjusts its position to ensure it gets optimum light.
As the Sun creeps over the horizon, sunflowers will begin raising their heads to bask in the day’s glow. In the same way, the Smartflower POP solar system will start itself up to harvest as much power as it can.
Although this solar concept made its debut in 2015, the system only recently entered the consumer market, began trending online and reignited public interest.
The system’s design allows it to track the Sun throughout the day, even through low-light conditions such as cloud cover. Thanks to its light-seeking smarts, it’s said to generate up to 40 per cent more output than a traditional rooftop-mounted solar panel. In an average year, the system delivers 4 000 kWh. This fulfils about half the annual electricity requirement of the average South African suburban household.
The Smartflower POP’s design features include:
- The ability to fold itself away in bad weather, including snowfall.
- A smart cleaning mechanism that removes dust from its panels.
- Self-cooling to deliver more output.
- Easy assembly and disassembly – set-up takes under an hour.
