Weight-conscious travellers (by that we mean your luggage, not your girth) looking for a compact, pocket-sized camera should check out Sony’s new RX100 II. An updated version of the successful RX100, it features Sony’s all-new 20,2 MP back-illuminated Exmor R 1.0-type CMOS sensor that increases sensitivity while reducing picture noise in tricky low-light situations.
Its glass isn’t too shabby either. The Carl Zeiss Vario- Sonnar T lens features 7 elements in 6 groups, apertures of f1.8 (wide) and f4.9 (tele) and a focal length of 28 – 100 mm (35 mm equivalent) to deliver crisp images regardless of what you’re snapping.
Built-in Wi-Fi means you can connect it effortlessly with your smartphone and transfer photos or videos. It’s also the first camera from Sony to feature NFC (near field communication) technology, allowing you to connect to Android devices with a simple touch. Other features include a new multi interface shoe (for attaching the optional electronic viewfinder, external flash or stereo mic), 7,5-cm TFT LCD screen and aluminium body. Price: about R9 000.
