Thanks to Sony’s new PJ790V Handycam, becoming your own movie director has never been easier. The first thing you’ll notice is the built-in projector. Light output has reportedly been upped by around 50 per cent on previous models, making for brighter movie shows (albeit in a darkened room). There’s also now an HDMI input, so you can project movies and still photos directly from your smartphone, tablet or PC on any wall or nearby surface.
Sony’s proprietary image stabilisation technology incorporates a “floating” optics and sensor unit, providing more than enough compensation for wobbly hands, no matter your zoom setting. The high-quality external microphone faithfully captures your surroundings in 5.1 surround sound.
The PJ790V can capture Full HD footage at 50 fps with a choice between filming in AVCHD (offering the best possible picture quality) or MP4 formats (great for online sharing). Its 96 GB internal memory (expandable) is said to be good for around 11 hours of Full HD recording. Price: about R17 000. Contact Sony on 011-690 3555 or visit www.sony.co.za
