In his new film, Elysium, Neil Blomkamp has returned to the realm of science fiction to draw two distinct and separate worlds: an overpopulated, ruined Earth, and Elysium, a man-made space station for the extremely wealthy. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle.
The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
In this video, Neil Blomkamp reveals his thinking behind Elysium and Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley (who plays Kruger, a futuristic ‘black ops’ agent) talk about their characters in the film. Plus you’ll get to see a sneak peek of the movie…
