In the late 1970’s the Hungarian gymnast, Péter Kovács (now retired) preformed the double somersault to regrab over the high bar. It was the first of its kind and lay the groundwork for thousands of gymnasts to try and better it with more complicated variations of what is now called Kovács. Now, almost 40 years after Kovács’ iconic preformance, a robot has been developed that replicates the gymnasts’ moves perfectly.

Although the robot has been around for some time, its recent voltage regulator upgrade has given it fine motor control. This is what enables it to execute the consecutive flips.

In the video above you can see the robot – called Horizontal Bar Gymnast Robot 28 – preform a series of Kovács and landing like a pro. Check it out.
