    The Nasa Regolith Excavation Challenge, set for 17-18 October at the Nasa Ames Research Centre in Silicon Valley, will award $500 000 (R3,9 million) for the robot that can dig and dump the most simulated lunar dirt during a 30-minute workout.

    Among the hot contenders is the Astrobotic Moon digger developed by Astrobotic Technology in collaboration with the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.
