When one thinks of SpeedWeek, it’s generally about all sorts of cars and motorbikes. However, at the second annual Kalahari Desert SpeedWeek that took place in the middle of this month, we were spoiled by the presence of some amazing planes. Some were owned by local farmers that just flew in for the day, and some settled in for the week. One of the clear show-stoppers was a magnificent North American Mustang P-51D, which wowed the crowd by sweeping just meters away from the spectators in a surprise aerobatic show. Having all the planes there really added an interesting dimension to the whole event, and hopefully it will continue to be that way, with more and more exciting machines arriving in the years to come. Here are a few pictures of a couple of planes we saw at SpeedWeek. Also, a video of the Mustang P-51D in action.
