BMW Motorcycles will soon be available with an emergency call button for their motorcycles, giving riders fast help in the case of an accident or emergency situation. The eCall system is being adopted after successful pan-European trials in 2011. The trial showed emergency services were able to get to respond and arrive at an accident scene 40 to 50 percent faster. The system
How it works:
In the case of an emergency the eCall system will send positioning data to the BMW Call Centre, where the emergency response chain is initiated. If the rider initiates the emergency call option, a voice call connection is established with the call centre.
The eCall system is currently only available in Europe, and is not set to come to South Africa soon.
