This drag race between a Ferrari, a Tesla and a all-electric commercial van called Edna is very inspired, albeit slightly strange.
The van was developed by US-based company Atieva and sports two all-electric motors, two sets of power electronics, two gearboxes as well as a battery with storage potential of 87 kWh and and output capability of (reportedly) more than 900 horsepower.
We’ve seen electric cars take on fossil fuel burners in the past, but no race has been as revealing and mysterious at the same time. Edna might just be one of the quickest cars on the road. In the video the van did 0 to 60 miles in 3,08 seconds. That’s better than the Ferrari’s quickest official time of 3,3 seconds.
While the company itself is shrouded is much mystery, but it seems they are developing cars. Edna was put together with the purpose of testing. The company disclosed in their blog that Edna was fitted with a powertrain for a sedan that presumably is under development. At the same time the van was used to test “motor control algorithms, regenerative braking behaviours, accelerator pedal feel and cooling strategies”.
Although we’re not quite certain what we can expect from Atieva, we do encourage you to watch Edna take on a Ferrari California and a Tesla Model S.
