The second annual Kalahari Desert SpeedWeek took place on Hakskeenpan in the Northern Cape from the 14-23 September, and we were there to capture all the motorcycle mayhem.
All manner of motorcycles, cars and even aircraft arrived on the pan to show what they could do. Out of the bikes present were some very impressive custom jobs. Some customised Harley Davidson’s, Yamaha’s, BMW’s, Suzuki’s and others tested their mettle on the 7 km track that was specially prepared for the vehicles. There were also some amazingly fast super-bikes that really tore up the track, reaching speeds of over 300 km/h.
Whether the owners were showing off their speed machines, or their special project bikes, they were all out in full force and ready to brave the dust-soaked desert.
Here’s a photo diary of some of the motorcycles that were seen there.
See some of the aircraft that were present at the event, too.
