To make an automatic birdbath filler, tap into your nearest automatic sprinkler pipe using a plastic pipe tap and piping sold for use with garden misters. Insert a small inline plastic throttle valve (available from your local hardware store) into the pipe at a convenient position, then run the pipe to the birdbath and bring it up to the rim (you can bend it over the rim by attaching some bent wire, using small cable ties). Use the throttle valve to slow the water flow to a rate that just overfi lls the birdbath during a sprinkler cycle – and voila!
