If you use turpentine for cleaning your paint brushes, make sure you do so thoroughly, using two or three lots of clean turps; this will ensure that the brushes last longer. Don’t dump the dirty turps. Rather pour it into a clean plastic milk bottle and leave it on the shelf for a couple of weeks. In time, the paint will settle out and you’ll be left with crystal-clear turps that you can pour off into another bottle for reuse. The small amount of sediment can be dumped in an environmentally responsible manner. You will be amazed how much you can save.
