Someone drove over my tape measure, leaving it in pieces. Disgusted, I was about to throw it away when my son came up with an interesting use for the remains: he discarded the spring and pulled up the tape coil to create a handy metal funnel of variable length. After use, it reverts to its original, tightly coiled shape, taking up very little space in the kitchen utensil drawer. (Of course, it’s equally handy in the workshop.)
