I recently upgraded my old 12-volt fluorescent camping lamp to a 12-volt LED system, and would like to share the procedure with you. My first thought was to swop the 12-volt tubes for LEDs, but at R300-plus, the prices were ridiculous. Then I realised that the casing of the existing light was fine, and all I needed to replace was the tube and electronics. I found a supplier of LED strip lights – and the rest was easy. You need only decide how many you need, then connect them up. I now have better, more energy efficient lighting, and all it cost me was R36.
