• Observatory catches Perseid meteor shower peak

Date:14 August 2020 Author: Leila Stein

The Perseid meteor has been showing off and while South Africa was unable to see it, an Observatory captured it in all its glory.

The Canary Island Long-Baseline Observatory on Tenerife caught the incredible sight on video, using the European Space Agency’s Meteor Research Group’s night vision video camera.

The meteor shower is still going, although past its peak. The shower happens every year when the Earth makes its way through the debris cloud left behind by the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
