The incredible shrinking cell antenna

Date:3 October 2011 Tags:

Tod Sizer, head of wireless research at Bell Labs, has created a 5 cm low-power cellular antenna that can be mounted on a light post. Instead of radiating signals from the top of tall towers, the small cubes relay multi-frequency signals directly to users and offload communications infrastructure from towers to central data centres. “The future is about lower-power solutions serving a smaller number of people,” Sizer says. – Logan Ward
