Johannesburg: Hobby-X

Check out Hobby-X at the Ticketpro Dome in Northgate, and visit the Popular Mechanics stand! Hobby-X is SA’s largest hobby and craft expo, featuring a variety of products, from mosaic craft supplies and baking to DIY décor and cycling accessories. Cape Town: Visit an Iziko museum

If the Cape Town Cycle Tour is not quite your speed, then consider checking out some of the exhibitions at the Iziko museums in and around Cape Town. From the history of African dinosaurs, to the top 40 photo entries for the Oceans of Life Photographic competition: Iziko is playing host to a variety of exhibitions to suit most tastes and curiosities.

Durban: I Heart Market

Visit the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban for this month’s I Heart Market. Shoppers will find an array of bespoke, craft and handmade items, as well as a wide selection of foods.

Grahamstown: SciFest

This week Grahamstown hosts SA’s largest science, technology and innovation festival: Scifest Africa. Established in 1996, and supported by the Department of Science and Technology, this year it will will explore the creation, measurement, depiction, experience and (even) end of time under the event theme: “A matter of time”.

In case all of this sounds less than exciting, here are some things you can expect: “Over seven days it features some 600 events: lectures, game drives, a laser show, workshops, sunset shows, robotics competitions, science olympics, school quizzes, interactive exhibitions, the PlayFair, field trips, talkshops and a film festival. Attendance now exceeds 35 000 visitors every year.”

Pretoria: The Boulevard Night Market

Tonight Glenfair Boulevard will host its inaugural night market, featuring food, craft beer and more than 30 stalls. There will also be live music at the market.
