Snapchat and Instagram have long been the kings of photo filters and effects, however a new challenger has thrown their hat into the ring with the hopes of becoming the go-to mobile phone editing app.
On Monday, Adobe announced the beta launch of their new AI-powered smartphone application for both iOS and Android devices. Known as Adobe Photoshop Camera, the app used Adobe’s Sensei AI technology to first recognize subjects in the photo, such as dynamic range, scene-type, and face regions, then automatically apply high quality filters and effects using only your phones camera viewfinder.
Adobe hope this app will provide users with the same quality of photo editing capabilities without having to learn the how to use the desktop program, which can be quite a daunting task. Now, everyone will be able to edit their photos in one single app and use “real-time Photoshop-grade magic from the viewfinder” as Adobe put it.
Apart from introducing fun filters and effects, Photoshop will work closely with celebrities and influencers to promote the app. Billie Eilish and other “well-known artists and influences” will all revive their own branded camera lenses (filters) for a limited amount of time in a style that best represents them.
If you’re interested in joining the beta program, you can sign up here. Adobe are hoping to release the app sometime in early 2020.
