Business mogul Elon Musk is now tied as the second richest person on Earth with Bill Gates. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is the only person to have more in his bank account, with an estimated worth of $182 billion.
Musk’s meteoric rise to the top of the world’s richest people list got a huge boost when his net worth jumped by $7.2 billion to $128 billion after shares in his electric car company Tesla surged, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
For a short period of time Musk was ahead of Bill Gates, who has an estimated wealth of $127.7 billion. However, the latest estimates from Bloomberg, which was last updated on 24 November 2020, has the two billionaires tied in second place on $128 billion each.
Musk’s huge sum of wealth can be directly linked to his electric car company Tesla. According to Bloomberg, Musk’s biggest asset is the company’s stock, of which he last owned about 20%.
In 2020 alone Musk was able to add more than an estimated $100 billion to his wealth thanks to Tesla’s stock shooting up by almost 524%, according to CCN Business.
When a Twitter user pointed out Musk’s achievement, the billionaire replied with one word, ‘wow’.
