This image shows a drop of water falling onto a daisy. The flower’s petals are refracted through a glass of water. The idea of the image is to show the fragility of our water supply and that we need to conserve “Every Last Drop”.

Captured by Kim van Zyl, this was a Runner up entry in the “International Year of Water Cooperation” category in the 2013 Southern African Science Lens (SA Science Lens) photography competition.

Organised and sponsored by the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), the SA Science Lens competition has been going since 2002. From portraying science in our everyday lives or showing something not visible to the naked eye to simply showing the beauty of science – there have been many striking images that have come out of the now biennial competition.
