Foldable helmet made from recycled paper could save lives

During a year of travelling, industrial designer Isis Shiffer often rented bicycles in different cities. Not being a professional cyclist, however, she didn’t carry a helmet with her and many renting stations didn’t have helmets available.

So, she decided to invent her own. The EcoHelmet is easy to store, completely safe, waterproof and also eco-friendly.

Made entirely of recycled cardboard, it folds up to about the size of a banana. It unfolds to fit just like a traditional helmet, cushioning the wearer’s head with honeycomb-patterned paper that absorbs and distributes impact.

The EcoHelmet is made from cheap materials and recyclable paper that costs less than $5. A simple folding design makes it easy to carry, but incredibly strong on impact. Its also coated with a material which is rain-resistant for three to four hours. ☆ . . . #eco #tech #stuff #green #environment #energyefficient #energysaving #sustainableliving #ecohelmet #climatechange #sustainability #ecofriendlyproducts #recycling #ecoconscious #alternativeenergy #foldinghelmet #design #sustainable #savetheplanet #gadget #greenenergy #renewable #greentech #technology #innovation #clevertech #ecodesign

“Almost ninety percent of bike share users don’t wear helmets, and nearly all report feeling unsafe on the road,” Shiffer says on her website. “EcoHelmet is an inexpensive folding helmet that can be purchased onsite and recycled when at the end of the ride.”

The EcoHelmet is certified by the Unite States Consumer Product Safety Commission, meaning it passed all standard safety tests that traditional helmets do.
