VW has been teasing images of its latest ID.4 all-electric vehicle since March of this year, and now, thanks to a VW ID forum, the internet has been flooded with undisguised images of the much-anticipated EV.
To the surprise of everyone, the leaked images are remarkably similar to the ‘camouflaged images’ shared by VW in March. The vehicle features elegant lines that flow that seamlessly from the bonnet of the vehicle to the boot, giving the ID.4 a much sportier look than its predecessor, the ID.3 hatchback.
Based off of the leaked images, it seems as though the ID.4 is being lined up as VW’s answer to the Tesla Model Y, Fords Mustang Mach E, and the Jaguar I-PACE, which should come as no surprise seeing as though larger crossovers and SUVs are becoming a more common sight on the roads today. The ID.4 is expected to deliver a range of 402km for the base model and 483km for the upper trim version.
Upon its official launch, the ID.4 will ship in RWD with a high-voltage battery positioned near the center of the underbody to create a low centre of gravity. However, AWD models of the ID.4 are scheduled to arrive ‘at a later date’ according to VW. This means customers will be able to configure their ID.4 with a variety of motor placements and battery options, according to Slashgear.
The ID.4 was initially scheduled to be debuted at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
