KITT from Knight Rider is going on auction

Date:7 January 2021 Author: Kyro Mitchell

If you grew up in the ’80s, you’ve undoubtedly seen the iconic Knight Rider show, and you’ll be all too familiar with the Knight Industries Two Thousand, or K.I.T.T as it’s more commonly known. Now, it looks as though you have the chance to purchase K.I.T.T and embrace your inner Michael Knight.

For those who are unfamiliar with the classic car, K.I.T.T is a modified 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am used by fictional character Michael Knight to fight crime in the 80’s TV show Knight Rider.

The vehicle is depicted as an ultra-fast supercomputer on wheels that features advanced technology, including a witty, ‘self-aware’ cybernetic logic module, which David Hasselhoff AKA Micheal Knight uses to communicate with the car.

The final season of Night Rider aired in April 1986, and since then K.I.T.T has been out of service. Thankfully, that is all about to change, as one lucky bidder will have the chance to once again get behind the wheel of the iconic vehicle. According to the auction description, the vehicle is a fully-functional conversion car with all the appropriate lights and switches, although don’t expect any weaponry or AI personal assistants.

The auction estimate is between R2.6 million [$175,000] and R4.6 million [$300,00]. There is however one catch, if the final price is at least 25% above the reserve, Hasselhoff will personally deliver the vehicle to its new owner.

The auction is set to end on January 23, so if you’ve got deep enough pockets, get to bidding!
