Music streaming service giant Spotify has made the decision to allow artists to link out to donation pages. The donation pages can be those of an organsation or a friend’s donation page.
Spotify is also allowing musicians to link back to a donation page that will help benefit themselves, as many independent artists have had to cancel shows and therefore are losing income. Spotify has stipulated that they will not take a portion of the proceeds. Those interested can sign up early here.
The company is also partnering with and actively searching for organisaitons that raise money for musicians. So far they have partnered with MusiCares, PRS Foundation and Help Musicians. Spotify has essentially set up a landing page for donations where they will match all donations by up to $10 million. These have to be made through the landing page though, in order to qualify for the matching.
In addition to this, Spotify is also making a number of creator tool features free. SoundBetter is removing its revenue share, Soundtrap is extending free trials for educators and Anchor is waiving fees on its Listener Support feature.
