LaLiga and SuperSport hosted a live virtual TV show this week during which they announced the first dedicated 24/7 LaLiga Santander English-language channel in Sub-Saharan Africa, aptly named LaLiga TV.
The introduction of the new LaLiga TV channel highlights the progressive partnership between the Spanish football league, LaLiga, and SuperSport. The dedicated channel will provide fans with everything LaLiga-related, including coverage and tactical analysis of recent fixtures, entertaining and in-depth debates, live studio shows, and the latest breaking news on every LaLiga team in the first division of Spanish football.
The event boasted some notable figures from the world of football, including LaLigaTV host Semra Hunter, world-renowned football journalist Guillem Balagué, and former Barcelona, Swansea, and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Andrea Orlandi. All of which added their perceptions about this year’s games, as well as about the new TV channel.
“LaLiga in Africa is delighted to have extended our partnership with SuperSport – the central home of football on the African continent. Through LaLiga TV we hope to expand our passion for football to our ever-growing fanbase,” said Marcos Pelegrín, LaLiga South Africa Managing Director, during an exclusive Q&A session with media representatives from most corners of the African continent.
Roger Brosel, head of content and programming at La Liga was also present at the event. He explained the many broadcast innovations LaLiga TV would be introducing into its programming, including the use of drone technology to capture never before seen angles of the action taking place on the pitch, augmented reality graphics, and of course virtual fans and audio.
“There’s something special about football Players, fans, spectators – you name it – we all come together in a mixture of cultures to share our passion for the game. It brings us closer to each other; we form connections and bond over current and past seasons,” said Guillem Balagué during the live event.
“Football is not merely a game, but also plays a key role in breaking down boundaries and finding a way forward for a more unified society,” Balagué added.
Fans of Spanish football can catch the various LaLiga TV shows daily, and tune in every weekend for live, action-packed LaLiga matchdays. All of which can be found on DStv Channel 204.
