According to Anshul Gupta, senior research director at Gartner, Apple’s introduction of 5G into the iPhone 12 significantly helped its sales.
“Even as consumers remained cautious in their spending and held off on some discretionary purchases, 5G smartphones and pro-camera features encouraged some end users to purchase new smartphones or upgrade their current smartphones in the quarter,” said Gupta.
In fact, the launch of the 5G capable iPhone 12 helped Apple record double-digit growth in the fourth quarter of 2020, which in turn helped the company surpass Samsung for the first time since 2016.
These sales figures are even more impressive when you consider the fact that Apple sells far fewer models compared to Samsung. Apple also prides itself in being a ‘luxury brand’, meaning its prices are often on the high-end of the scale.
