Rumours of Apple working on its very own virtual reality headset has been making the rounds for quite some time. In January, Bloomberg reported that Apple was developing a high-end VR headset that could hit stores by 2022.
Now, it looks as though those rumours might hold some weight to them as a new report from The Information (paywall) is shedding some light on what you can expect from Apple’s VR headset.

According to reports from The Information, who cites an unnamed source “with direct knowledge” of the device which also lines up with Bloomberg’s previous reports, the headset could feature more than a dozen cameras that will be used for tracking hand movements and showing video footage of the real world to people wearing it.
In terms of the actual display, while the device will indeed feature ‘ultra-high-resolution 8K displays’, it won’t be running at the full resolution the entire time. Instead, the headset will use eye-tracking technology to determine where users are looking and then render peripheral areas in lower resolution. This will significantly improve the headset’s performance.
So how much will this rumoured VR headset cost you? Well according to The Information, Apple will charge you an eye-watering R44,000 ($3,000) for the honour of buying the device.
