Music to your Ears

If you like the idea of blowing your hair back with serious, window-rattling audio, you need to pause and consider Bowers & Wilkins’ stylish Panorama soundbar. Of the nine drive units housed within its aluminium case, five are devoted to the active centre speaker: two bass woofers, two mid-range drivers and an aluminium dome tweeter featuring B&W’s nautilus tube technology. The remaining four drive units, located within their own enclosures to enhance performance, provide the rest of the sound.

This is serious sound muscle. All nine drive units are powered by six class D amplifiers that together push out an impressive 175 watts of surround sound. Although the Panorama soundbar was designed primarily to partner large flatscreen televisions, this doesn’t mean it won’t work withother entertainment devices: it also provides surround and stereo sound to gaming consoles, iPods, CD players and the like. It can stand on its own or attach to a wall, using the supplied bracket. Price: about R15‡000. Contact distributors HFX Systems on 011-907 9092 or visit
