Clash Royale fanatics battled it out at the first sold-out Comic Con Africa event this past weekend at the KyalamiConvention Centre 15-16th September 2018

Thousands flocked to the first sold-out Comic Con Africa this past weekend in Jo’burg, bringing together some of the country’s top gamers and eSports’ fanatics. The inaugural Red Bull M.E.O. by ESL hosted the first global competition in South Africa to celebrate eSports and one of the most downloaded mobile games, Clash Royale. The partnership bids to future an eSportsplatform for mobile gamers in the country for years to come with the vision to see SA’s top gamers celebrated for their skills and talent at home, and on a global scale.

The Clash Royale tournament was played by almost 256 players at Comic Con Africa’s Red Bull M.E.O. by ESL area over the two-day event. Adding to the excitement, three of the world’s best players, also from South Africa, joined the competition for a chance to compete and uphold their world standings.

The players competed to reserve a space in the international final next year in Germany to become the world’s Best Clash RoyalePlayer in the World. 36 countries will compete for this title and South Africa has a shot at claiming the top spot.

After an intense two days of tower-destroying battles, it came down to the final two players vying for the win. The final event was live-streamed on Twitch.TV for viewers around the world to tune in and see the action. John Hague and Waylan Arendse battled it out in the final round to finish off the two-day battle. Taking the win, John Hague, just sixteen years old from Roodepoort, kept his cool throughout the stages and made it all the way to the end to claim the trophy for the first Red Bull M.E.O. by ESL Clash Royale South Africa winner.

Super excited to have won, definitely a lot harder than I expected but Nova Titan really put me through my paces as he snatched the first best of five… but I managed to clutch it up and I’m just really excited to see what I can do in Germany!‘, said John after claiming the victory at Comic Con Africa.

John heads to Germany in January to compete with the champions from 36 other countries in the world final. Game on!

Keep an eye on the Red Bull platforms and Red Bull M.E.O. microsite for more details and the winner’s journey to the top and world final.
