Wanting to light up a part of the garden or beef up your security? Then check out the locally produced Daymaker solar lighting system. Designed to last, the battery box and light casings are manufactured from high-grade galvanised steel, epoxy coated to offer maximum weather protection. The PIR motion sensor triggers the LED at a distance of about 10 m and it remains on for 3 minutes. There’s also a built-in day/night sensor to keep power consumption to a minimum.

Each basic system comprises a solar panel, rechargeable batteries, one of three light options (wide angle, full flood or spot light) and mounting brackets (for walls and poles). Brackets allow you to fix the battery against the wall or flush with the solar panel.

Up to three lights can be attached to a single power box, so you need only find a sunny spot for the solar panel. Because the cables can be run up to 30 m per light, you can place them exactly wherever you like. A basic system costs about R2 800 and extra lights sell for R1 000 apiece.
