Disney+ is quickly becoming one of the most popular streaming sites around, and with shows like The Mandalorian, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, its easy to see why.
Now, it appears as though Disney+ is looking to cement its place as the top streaming service by offering its users a GroupWatch feature, which as the name suggests, lets you remotely watch your favourite shows with your friends and family.
To use this feature, subscribers can launch the experience through the GroupWatch icon found on the Details page of series and movies from the library on Disney+. Once a user has selected the GroupWatch option, they will then be given a link to invite up to six other people to watch with them (Disney+ subscription required). Invitations must however originate from a mobile or web device, but can then viewed from a connected TV device or Smart TV.
During a show or movie, viewers can react to what they’re seeing in real time with up to six different emojis, including like, funny, sad, angry, scared and surprised, all of which can be accessed through the Disney+ app.
GroupWatch also has a synchronized playback feature which seamlessly allows each participant to pause for a bathroom break, play, rewind to watch a favorite scene again, or fast forward, for the whole group.
GroupWatch was initially launched in Canada on 10 September, with Australia and New Zealand receiving the feature shortly after. A wider release of the feature is expected to hit international shores towards the end of the year.
