Mechanical engineers, industrial designers and other can-do types wanting to get into additive manufacturing will undoubtedly be tempted by the locally designed and manufactured RoboBeast 3D printer. Ruggedly built and refreshingly uncomplicated to use, it comes fully assembled and ready to print; no DIY or recalibration is required.

The machine’s build bed, measuring 300 x 300 x 300 mm (x, y and z axis) and 0,03 mm print nozzle allows you to grow components to an accuracy of 100 microns (0,1 mm), and its wireless touchscreen interfaces with your wireless network or SD device, so it doesn’t need to be connected directly to a PC. The printer’s modular design equates to minimal maintenance, and replacing worn parts involves no re-assembly. Print parameters and print speed can be customised to suit your specific requirements.

Optional extras include a solar panel and controller (for working off-grid), a heat bed and a large 12 V 27 Ah battery that provides 20 hours of print time. Units can even be custom-built to order. Expect to pay between R20 000 and R40 000, depending on the bed size and components.
