Please don’t hate us. It took us by just as much surprise when the Uber app wouldn’t work on our Huawei P20 Pro and P20 on Friday. And as big fans of the Huawei devices, we were deeply disappointed.
There is a fix, though, and it’s of the easy three-click kind. All you need do is follow this link https://developers.google.com/android/guides/beta-program and sign up as a Google Play Services Beta tester. It’s a public beta, so relatively stable. All you then do is close the affected GPS or mapping app and open it again. Wait a few seconds for it to load and presto, all sorted.
While there is no clearly defined reason for the problem, it is link to the recent Google Play Services update. All Huawei devices running Android 7.0 or newer seem to be affected and Huawei and Google have both confirmed that a more permanent fix is on the way. This solution does work for now, though.
