YouTube has confirmed that Google Play Music will be replaced with YouTube Music from September 2020 in South Africa.
According to a blog post, South Africa and New Zealand will be the first two countries to see this change. This will be followed by other markets in October.
“Don’t worry, we will be holding onto things like your playlists, uploads, purchases, likes and more until December 2020 to make your transfer to YouTube Music easier,” the company said.
Those wanting to begin transferring their music can use the transfer tool which has been operational since May.
“Over the last few years, we’ve worked to build a fantastic fan experience on YouTube Music, merging the very best of Google Play Music with the very best of YouTube,” said the company.
The new platform comes with the bells and whistles expected of music players including personalised playlists, collaborative playlists, integrated app usage, and Android TV integration.
