HMD Global has launched the new Nokia 1 Plus – one of the world’s first devices running Android 9 (Android Go) – in South Africa.
“With the Nokia 1 Plus our vision is to deliver exceptional value for money with a bigger screen and a high-quality distinctive design. The improved screen display and better viewing experience will allow you to enjoy your favourite apps and shows on the go. With the added benefit of Google Assistant Go – your own AI voice assistant allows you to ask questions, set reminders, and give it tasks, all by simply talking to it,” says Shaun Durandt, General Manager of HMD Global Southern Africa.
The Nokia 1 Plus has a polycarbonate shell and features an 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP selfie-camera (with beauty feature), a 5.45-inch IPS 18:9 fullscreen display (so no notches or hole-punch cutouts), and a MediaTek quad-core chipset.
Android Go is Google’s lightweight approach to the Android operating system which uses “lite” versions of the apps you already know and love, which run faster and consume less data.
You’ll still have full access to the Google Play store with optimised apps for Android (Go edition) appearing first to make your searches easier. All the essentials like WhatsApp and Facebook and Google Assistant Go are available right out of the box and you’ll be able to use bespoke Go edition apps such as YouTube Go.
The Nokia 1 Plus is available in two colours – Blue and Black – and will be available from 01 May 2019 for at an estimated R1,499.00 from Vodacom outlets and later during the month at selected MTN outlets.
