Huawei brings us SA’s first pop-up selfie smartphone camera

Catering to the younger, more tech-savvy consumer, Huawei has launched their latest addition to the Y series, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. New features include an atypical pop-up front camera, an ultra FullView display screen, and a powerful triple camera set up at the back. The selfie camera is neatly tucked away into the top of the device and the front camera snaps up in less than a second when activated. With a 16MP lens and a F2.2 aperture, as well as stunning 3D portrait lighting features, users of this device are able to capture high-definition selfies. These are further sculpted by Huawei’s powerful AI backlight, enabling precise object and scene recognition.

Worried about the longevity of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019’s pop-up camera? Have no fear; it has been extensively tested, allowing for over 100 000 pop-ups and retractions. In other words, even if you start the front camera 50 times a day, it will still last more than 5 years. The pop-up camera has been proven to withstand up to 15kg³ of pressure, as well as thrive in extreme environmental conditions, from as cold as 20°C to as hot as 60°C. Most importantly, it is designed with an intelligent protective feature that detects free falls and automatically retracts the lens as much as possible.

    Revolutionary screen display

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 represents a break from conventional smartphone design. It abandons any form of notch, opting instead to expand the actual display area by a dramatic degree. The screen is simply a smooth and unobstructed glass surface, offering a futuristic feel and wholly immersive viewing experience with its 6.59-inch display and 2340 X 1080 FHD resolution. This device is 91% screen estate, with a screen aspect ratio of 19:5:9.

Triple back camera for triple the fun

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 houses a game-changing triple back camera, set up with a 16MP, 8MP and 2MP configuration respectively. The 16MP camera boasts an F/1.8 aperture, allowing for bright and colorful photographs due to increased light exposure. The 8MP camera swaggers wide angle shots thanks to its 120° field of view, while the 2MP camera generates depth in field effects. Both the 16MP and 8MP cameras feature a six-lens plastic array design that can reproduce minute details, enabling users to recreate scenes in their full complexity, with enhanced image clarity, contrast, and overall quality.

    Unfaltering battery

With a 4000mAh battery that can be used for intensive full-day use, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 allows for extended periods of work, pleasure or gaming – thanks both to the increased battery size, as well as the AI power management system, which manages battery performance. This device is also equipped with the Kirin 710F chipset, which ensures a super smooth performance while saving battery life.

Storing a lifetime worth of memories

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 comes built in with a storage capacity of 128GB and can also easily be upgraded to the 512GB option. If you get an SD card, it can even be jacked up to 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM, providing almost unlimited storage space for all those memories, videos, photographs and files.

This game-changing device is currently priced at R5,399 and is available at Telkom and Vodacom stores and via www.huaweistore.co.za.

The Y9 Prime 2019 will be available in three colours – Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black *. The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 comes with a two-year warranty that includes one free replacement pop-up camera (worth R799) in the case of accidental or physical damage.
