MTN has launched its 5G services for mobile and home in select areas in the country.

“With speeds 10x faster than 4G and eventually becoming 100x faster, 5G is changing the way we work and play,” said MTN’s website.

This coverage is initially being rolled out in Gauteng, Western Cape, and Free State, with intentions to expand across the country as adoption increases.

Customers have two options, 5G home Wi-Fi or 5G mobile or both. 5G home promises speeds of 100Mbps and peak speeds of 500Mbps. 5G mobile can give you average speeds of 50Mbps and peak speeds of 500Mbps on the go.

Customers interested can purchase 5G data plans and 5G enabled phones and routers from MTN. These are still limited with only the Huawei P40 Pro, Huawei P40, and LG Velvet 5G phones on offer and the Huawei CPE Pro 2 5G, Huawei MC801A 5G, and ZTE 6878 routers.

As part of its launch, MTN is offering two exclusive deals for customers. They are offering a 24-month unlimited data plan for R1249/ month or a 36-month unlimited data plan for R999/month until the 31 July. Both come with a 5G-enabled router.
