    Crime has always been a huge problem in South Africa, with the country ranking in the top 10 for highest crime rates around the world according to World Population Review. That is why it’s crucial to always remain vigilant when you’re out and about. However, it’s not always easy to be on full alert 24/7. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the best safety apps for both Apple and Android to keep you safe when things get a bit dodgy.

    Find my kids– Apple/Android

    Find my kids is an Android and Apple application that keeps track of your kids’ location using GPS technology. Find my kids also offers you a ‘loud signal’ option which sends a loud signal to the child’s phone if he left the phone in a backpack or turned on silent mode.

     

    Red Panic Button– Apple/Android

    Upon setting up Red Panic Button you will be asked to set Google maps. The app then sends your exact location to emergency contacts you have pre-selected. If your location is not enough, you can opt to set up emailed panic alerts with more information such as the local time, or Twitter and Facebook panic buttons, which will send out an emergency message to your social media accounts once you’ve pressed the Panic button.

     

    Namola– Apple/Android

    Namola is an emergency app that quickly requests emergency service on your half though trained operators. By using your phones GPS location, Namola is able to tell emergency services who and where you are when you’re in danger. You also have the ability to add up to five emergency contacts that can see your current location during an emergency and can message you and the Namola control room to understand what’s happening and to help you get to safety.

     

    iSharing– Apple/Android

    iSharing friends, family and kids location tracker is another application that lets you keep tabs on those you love most. By using GPS technology iSharing offers you realtime location tracking. This means you will receive realtime alerts when a friend or kids arrive at or leave a certain destination. You can also use the app to locate a stolen or lost phone.

     

    MySOS SA– Apple/Android

    MySOS SA is a safety application made by South Africans for South Africans. The app offers you access to contact details and addresses for doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, dentists, vets and police stations all around South Africa. If you’re the outdoors type, MySOS also keeps track of your GPS location and will create and emergency SOS directed at your selected emergency contacts showing them the details of your journey and your current location.
